Welcome
to Meare Village Primary School Website. We hope that you will find
all the information you need about our happy and successful school,
including our aims and our prospectus. We also hope that you will enjoying
sharing and celebrating the range of activities on offer to the children.
We are proud to be a 'Village School' and maintain links with the local
church, Parish Council and Local farms and businesses. We also enjoy
partnerships with the local RSPB nature reserve and Station Farm where
the children often visit. We have a link with Knowle Park School in
Bristol and Mudindi School in Kenya and The Primary School Attached to Hunan College for Nationalities’ in China. All of these links support our
school ethos which places a high priority on a real, relevant and creative
curriculum for all children. We hope to equip them with both the academic
tools for economic success and the social and emotional skills for happy
lives. We also want them to enjoy being children!
When you first visit our school you will see our mural which was designed and painted by the children with support from a local artist. It depicts our school ethos ’ We are the people we have been waiting for’. We encourage our children to take responsibility for themselves, their peers and their planet. We aim to nurture innovation and independence.
Our commitment to sustainability and a sense of responsibility towards
the environment has earned us an 'Outstanding' judgment from OFSTED
and is woven throughout our curriculum.
Key members of the school community are trained in 'Forest School' education
and throughout their school life, children will have access to one session
of outdoor education per week. may. We have a dedicated Forest School
classroom, an iron age roundhouse, story telling bench and wildlife
area. We have a fire circle on site and a poly tunnel where the children
plant, water, harvest and sell their own fruit, vegetables and plants.
We keep chickens and the children take responsibility for their day
to day care with support from parents and other members of our community
at weekends.
We are proud to organise and run 'The Street and Glastonbury Film Awards'
and 'Mearekats' our Parent and Toddler group, both of which are featured
on our site.
